RUNNERS OF ALL SHAPES, COLORS, SPEEDS, GENDERS, Orientations, AND IDEOLOGIES ARE WELCOME AT ALL FREESTONE ENDURANCE EVENTS

WE ARE NOT ONLY COMMITTED TO AN EXPERIENCE THAT BENEFITS ALL RUNNERS, BUT ALSO THE TRAIL COMMUNITY & THE LAND WE RUN ON

To that end, we have worked with the community and national groups, like the National Center for Transgender Equality, to build policies that reflect and promote diversity within the sport. As our community grows and changes, these policies will too.

We welcome feedback and open minded discussion if you have questions about why and how we made these policies.

Like our policies? Feel free to borrow and reuse! We just ask that you let us know that you’re building off of them.

PREGNANCY & NEW CHILD DEFERRAL POLICY

Bringing a new life into your family is no small feat and we want to support you through this journey.

The policy creates an avenue for runners or their partners, regardless of gender, to defer their spot to the following year in the event of a pregnancy, birth, or adoption during the time period after registration and before the race.

TRANSGENDER & NON BINARY REGISTRATION POLICY

We built this policy because we wanted it to be clear that all Freestone events are a safe and accepting community for all runners. Come as you are, running doesn’t discriminate and neither do we.

This was developed with guidance from the National Center for Transgender Equality (NCTE).

UTE TRIBAL MEMBERS

Freestone Endurance races run on Ute Land, much of which was stolen from them through the Conejos Treaty and the Ute Treaty of 1868. While we cannot undo the past, we can honor the ancestral right and connection to the land of all Utes.

Any enrolled Ute tribal member may run the Sawatch Ascent free of charge.

HIGH LONESOME LOTTERY

The High Lonesome is the first ultra in North America to allocate the same number of spots for women as for men. The lottery also provides a safe and transparent way for non-binary and transgender runners to apply.

SUSTAINABILITY

We believe in taking accountability for our actions and leaving places better than we found them.

To help reduce landfill waste, all Freestone Endurance events are committed to minimizing, or eliminating completely, single use plastics. One of the ways we’re accomplishing this is by being a cupless event and requesting runners to bring their own cup to drink and eat from.

All aid stations will have recycling and compost to further reduce landfill waste.
